Silviculture Supervisor

EACOM is one of the major producers in the Eastern Canadian timber industry. Operations include the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of lumber and wood-based value-added products, and the management of forest resources. EACOM currently owns nine sawmills in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Quebec, and employs more than 1100 employees.

Your mandate
Reporting to the Timmins Operations Forester you will assist in the planning, implementation and monitoring of all silviclutral activities on the Pineland Forest. Specifically, you be responsible for field contract management of tree planting, mechanical site preparation, tending, and pre-commercial thinning projects, free-to-grow and regeneration surveys, silvicultural record keeping and other silvicultural duties as assigned.

More specifically, you will… 

  • Assist the Operations Forester develop annual silvicultural work plans consistent with Company approved Forest Management Plans and operating budgets;
  • Develop silvicultral prescriptions for all sites harvested ensuring they are regenerated in a cost-effective manner meeting all Company and Government policies, rules, regulations and FMP targets.
  • Ensure all silvicltural contractors adhere to the Company’s Environmental Management System and comply with the Pineland Forest Compliance Plan.

Your qualifications:

  • poesses 3 to 5 years direct silvicultural field and contract management expereince;
  • have a recognized University degree or College Diploma in forestry and/or forest engineering;
  • demonstrate a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, be physically fit, and able to produce positive results with clients and contractors;
  • have leadership skills, be motivated to produce  high-quality deliverable products, and be flexible and adaptable to a variety of work environments;
  • have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment;
  • be expereinced in the use of Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Arcview GIS (or equivalent), GPS technology and electronic data collection tools;
  • be a certified MNR Complaince Inspector or poesses the ability to obtain certification;
  • have a reliable vehicle and  valid Ontario “G” Class Drivers License, or equivalent, clean driving record and expereince with driving on gravel roads;
