EACOM is Ready to Work with New Government in the Continued Development of a Sustainable and Competitive Forest Industry
Montreal, June 8th, 2018 – EACOM Timber Corporation is pleased to welcome the new PC Ontario Government to office as well as all elected officials during this time of opportunity for the forest products sector and its communities.
“A strong forest products sector is good for not only Ontario’s economy but critical for its environment and people. I am confident that the PC Government will seize the opportunity to support the sector to its full potential” said Kevin Edgson, EACOM President and CEO.
Working forests are well positioned to deliver on key government priorities, including securing good jobs, supporting thriving communities, encouraging investments in innovation and fighting climate change. Throughout the election period, EACOM has engaged with thousands of stakeholders and community members on a variety of topics to promote the industry’s positive contributions to the province.
On May 28th, EACOM joined representatives from Aboriginal business, mining, prospectors, forestry, local government, and the broader business community in calling for the creation of a provincial natural resource strategy. Resource industries are the backbone of Ontario’s economy, representing an important source of greater living standards and well-being for all; however, important challenges need to be addressed in order to ensure a resilient sector capable of weathering the global competition.
“Along with a resources sector and manufacturing strategy, we look forward to collaborating with elected officials on evidence-based balanced policy, workforce capacity development and Northern Ontario infrastructure. We want to see Ontario maintain healthy forests that meet the social, economic and environmental needs of present and future generations” added Edgson.
“Congratulations to MPPs Gilles Bisson (NDP), France Gélinas (NDP), Sol Mamakwa (NDP), Michael Mantha (NDP), Ross Romano (PC) and John Vanthof (NDP) for being elected to represent the communities that are home to our six manufacturing facilities in Northern Ontario” concluded Edgson.
